Curriculum

Our aim is that Astley School provides a rich learning environment where all children thrive and grow

We recognise that our children learn throughout every minute and interaction within the school day. Our curriculum is therefore made up of many elements including our vision, values and ethos, Collective Worship, the National Curriculum, Religious Education, and the wider educational experiences available to pupils.

Intent

In designing our curriculum, we have carefully considered both the locality our pupils are growing up in and the world they are entering. We recognise that the pace of change is faster than ever before, and that creativity, adaptability and resilience are essential for future success.

Alongside strong academic knowledge and skills, we place great importance on the development of social skills, independence and resilience.

By the time pupils leave Astley, we want them to be:

  • Successful learners
  • Confident individuals
  • Responsible citizens

Implementation

We take every opportunity to place academic learning within a real-life context. This includes engaging with our local community, designing purposeful learning tasks and providing meaningful experiences across the curriculum.

We enhance our curriculum through regular opportunities for learning beyond the classroom, making full use of our Worcestershire countryside setting to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences.

This approach brings learning to life, ensuring it is transferable and enabling pupils to develop both academic and social skills.

Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression in knowledge and skills across all subjects, supported by a two-year cycle to meet the needs of our mixed-age classes.

Impact

Through our curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to succeed both in school and beyond.

They leave Astley as confident, resilient learners with a strong moral understanding, a sense of curiosity about the world and the ability to contribute positively to society.
