School Meals 


School Meals

Our school meals are provided by St Anne’s C of E Primary School’s catering team. Meals are freshly prepared each day using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible and meet all School Food Standards.

The team focuses on providing healthy, balanced and appealing food choices. All meals are served with salad and vegetables. Meals are prepared off-site, transported to school daily and served to children in the school hall.

Our menu runs on a three-week rotation, offering a varied selection of meals across the term.

Our current menu, allergen information and dairy-free replacement menu are available below and are updated each term.

Please note that menus may occasionally change due to supply availability.

Ordering Meals

All meals must be booked in advance via Arbor.

  • Orders close at 10:00pm on Thursday for the following week
  • After this time, meals will no longer be available to book
  • If a meal has not been ordered, your child will need to bring a packed lunch

Meals may occasionally appear unavailable to book while menus are being updated.

If you have any difficulties ordering meals, please contact the school office.

Cost of Meals

  • Meals are charged at £2.70 per day and paid for via Arbor
  • Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals
  • Hot meals can also be ordered for children attending our Pre-School. As Astley Pre-School is a governor-led provision, Pre-School children are not currently eligible for Free School Meals through the school and meals are therefore charged at £2.70. We will update families if this position changes

Families may also be eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals. Please contact the school office or see below for further information or support with applying.

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

We take food allergies and dietary requirements very seriously.

If your child has any allergies or specific dietary needs, please ensure the school is fully informed. Detailed allergen information is available and can be provided on request.

Packed Lunches

Children may bring a packed lunch if preferred.

We kindly ask that packed lunches support healthy eating and do not include:

  • Nuts or nut-based products
  • Sweets or fizzy drinks

Free School Meals

There are two main ways that school-aged children may receive a free school meal:

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at a state-funded school are entitled to a free school meal each day, regardless of household income.

You do not need to apply for Universal Infant Free School Meals.

However, if your family receives Universal Credit, it is still very important that your child's eligibility for benefits-based Free School Meals is checked, even if they are already receiving a free meal because they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2.

This is because benefits-based Free School Meal eligibility can also affect additional funding and support available to your child and the school.

Benefits-Based Free School Meals

From September 2026, Free School Meal eligibility has been expanded.

All children from households receiving Universal Credit are now entitled to benefits-based Free School Meals, regardless of household earnings.

Eligibility may also apply to some families receiving support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 and to some families with no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

Eligibility must be verified before a child can be recorded as eligible for benefits-based Free School Meals.

If you think your child may be eligible, or your circumstances have changed, please contact the school office. We will be happy to help you with the eligibility-checking process.

Why is it important to check?

Even if your child is already receiving a free meal through Universal Infant Free School Meals, please make sure we know if your household receives Universal Credit.

Registering eligible children helps to ensure that the school receives the appropriate funding to support pupils.

Pre-School

Hot school meals can now be ordered through Arbor for children attending Astley Pre-School and currently cost £2.70 per meal.

Astley Pre-School is a governor-led early years provision. Children attending this provision are not registered pupils of the school and therefore do not currently qualify for Free School Meals through the school in the same way as registered pupils.

We will keep families updated if the funding or eligibility arrangements for our Pre-School change.
