Sports Premium

PE & Sport at Astley

At Astley CE Primary School, we recognise the important role that physical education plays in promoting the health and wellbeing of all pupils. We believe that high-quality PE and sport have a positive impact on pupils’ concentration, attitude and academic achievement.

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils experience a wide range of high-quality curricular and extra-curricular sporting opportunities.

We are proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Award, recognising our commitment to high-quality PE and sport.

What is the Sports Premium Grant?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is funding provided to schools to improve the quality of physical education, sport and physical activity. It aims to develop staff skills, increase opportunities for participation and promote competitive sport.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, Astley CE Primary School has received £8,385 in Sports Premium funding to date. Additional funding is typically received later in the academic year, and this figure will be updated accordingly.

Our approach

At Astley CE Primary School, every child is involved in physical activity through PE lessons, extra-curricular clubs and competitive opportunities.

We provide opportunities for pupils to take part in:

  • Competitive sports and tournaments
  • Extra-curricular clubs and activities
  • Cluster and district sporting events

We work in partnership with Worcestershire West School Sports Partnership to provide opportunities for pupils to compete at a district level and attend a range of sporting events throughout the year.

Our cluster of schools shares a clear vision for PE and sport, which focuses on increasing opportunities for participation and competition for all pupils.

Sports Premium funding has also recently been used to provide a sports coach to deliver structured lunchtime activities, increasing participation in physical activity, particularly for pupils who may not otherwise engage in sport.
